What issues you are passionate about? Have you ever taken that energy to the streets? It is an incredibly empowering experience. Whether you are shutting down the WTO (didn’t we!), pressuring lawmakers, or getting press for your issue, the raw experience of  marching en masse, shouting your lungs out and feeling the power of we the people is something you should do. And you should do it Monday, January 18 in Olympia!   

In 1963 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. led the March on Washington (D.C.) for Jobs & Freedom as a high point of our nation’s civil rights movement. Over 40 years later  poverty and unemployment are on the rise; our state still struggles with economic and racial disparities. So, on Martin Luther King Day 2010, hundreds of people from across the state will come together in Olympia to demand change.

Join the Statewide Poverty Action Network and others in the People’s Summit & March on the Capitol: The March on Washington State for Jobs & Justice. You can sign up here.   

You’ll be briefed on poverty-related issues the legislature will face this session, have the chance to learn new skills and then practice them in meetings with lawmakers. And you will march, shout, sing, and celebrate people power!

 Washington State faces unprecedented budget pressures. Last year, our state made devastating cuts to programs that help people meet their basic needs, causing 40,000 people to lose their healthcare and thousands of people with disabilities to lose their only source of income. If you don’t think we can afford another all-cuts budget and that we need to raise revenue and protect these critical programs, come hit the streets with us on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day!
